Dr. Derek Keeper with his dog Vixen
Dr Derek
Dr Derek has been practicing in NSW since graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (honours) in 2007. Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (honours) at the University of Guelph in Canada.
In December 2017, Derek graduated from a Masters of Veterinary Clinical Science Program at the University of Sydney, completing his work on Reproduction in Robotic Dairies. In July of 2015, Derek also passed his Membership exams in Animal Nutrition (Ruminants), becoming a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. He has a passion for preventative health care in both livestock and small animals, and brings this passion to his own practice by striving to provide affordable and convenient health care and advice on the care of pets and livestock alike.
Derek became the Nepean Mobile Vet in May 2015. His dedication to the practice of exceptional Veterinary medicine, and his understanding that the majority of people in the area work from Monday to Friday, led him to create his mobile practice with its original opening hours centred over the weekend for the convenience of the community.
In his spare time, Derek enjoys spending time with his wife Karen and their two daughters, reading, camping, model building and making improvements to his castle.
Dr Karen
Karen officially joined us in 2020 after having spent her first 12 Veterinary years in a rural mixed animal practice in Northern NSW, and then a primary small animal practice in Western Sydney. Karen has a passion for Veterinary medicine and pets with behaviour problems, with an emphasis on prevention and treatment of behavioural problems in dogs and cats to reduce levels of rehoming and destruction of young healthy animals.
Karen established the Nepean Mobile Vet business with Derek in 2015, and while she may not be out in the truck visiting your pets and livestock as often as Derek, you will likely encounter her on the other end of the phone or an email.
Her interests include camping, hiking, cooking, yoga, crochet, reading crime novels and spending time with Derek and their daughters Alaina and Charlotte. Their Kelpie X, Vixen, and two rescue cats, Barney and Mischief, keep the house full of pet fur and plenty of fun.
